P.S. This is the very first photo shoot trying out the 28-300mm lens. Still learning how to use it and understanding its quirks. However already see a big improvement in quality and sharpness. Despite this being labeled a "soft" lens by some pros, there are some amazingly sharp images when I get it just right. Must say it is an interesting challenge hand holding a 1.6kg lens steady at 300mm magnification while looking over your shoulder at the same time for people. :p On a serious note, it does seem to be sharper at the telephoto end than the wider settings.
