Red Riding Hood Goes Nude

Little red riding hood is one of best known fantasy story tales. Red riding hood has featured in TV shows, movies, songs, pop culture and art. Now it is Harper's turn to be red riding hood. This time the Nude-Muse way with a nude red riding hood. We will also discuss the origins of this tale and a little bit of history.

one of the earliest versions of the little red riding hood tale is the 17th century French author Charles Perrault "Le Petit Chaperon Rouge". The most common known version is the one where a big bad wolf wants to eat red riding hood, but doesn't want to do it in a public place, She innocently tells him she is heading to her grandmothers place and he entices her to go into the woods to pick flowers. In the mean time he heads to her grandmothers house and eats her whole. Once red riding hood arrives, she notices grandma is a little different than when she last saw her. Then the part of the story we all know happens, "my what deep voice you have", to which the wolf replies "to better greet you with". "What big eyes you have", to which the wolf replies "to better to see you with" and so on until red riding hood says "my what big mouth you have", to which the wolf replies "The better to eat you with" at which point the big wolf eats her whole and then falls asleep. It is when a lumberjack comes by and cuts open the wolf and lets out both red riding hood and grandma that he rescues them both. They place rocks into the wolf and sew him back up. When the wolf wakes up he tries to flee, but collapses from the weight of the stones and dies.

There are many variants of this story. Some has grandma just trapped in the closet, and some has the lumberjack save red riding hood before she gets eaten. Some versions she escapes by herself. The origins however can be dated back even further to the 14th century to a tale told by French and Italian peasants, which was originally called "the story of grandmother". Seems like making a story sexier for audiences is a centuries old tradition, not just a modern construct.

Some say red riding hood is a story of deeper meanings. Some believe it is a symbol of puberty of a girl entering womanhood. Where the girl leaves home and by going through the act of the tale, is transformed into an adult woman upon exiting the wolf's belly. Some see the cutting open of the wolf's belly as re-birth, while others see it s a sexual awakening, with the red cloak symbolising the blood of menstruation and braving the dark forest of womanhood, or the cloak represents the hymen as earlier versions of the tale the cloak was not red, and the wolf threatens the girl's virginity.

Some say this tale is a representation of the solar myths of the naturally occurring cycles. With the red hood as the bright sun, and being swallowed by the terrible wolf (night) to ultimately be cut out of the wolf and re-emerge (dawn). No matter what the tale represents, or the origins of this tale, Harper makes a stunning red riding hood, who is waiting for her very own big bad wolf to come by.

Oh and a very special thanks to my mum who made the red riding hood Haper is wearing in the photos. This is going to sound weird, but I chose the fabric and the fur trim, because I wanted Harper's version of red riding hood to be a more princess/high fashion (regal) like.
